SOCIAL NEED

For under-represented youth in low-income communities, attending school often does not translate into a quality education and life prospects. Minority children attending schools in low-income communities:

• Who are performing below grade level are costing our country roughly $310-$525 billion dollars in GDP each year, which is the economic equivalent of a national recession
• Will comprise 50% of school-aged children by 2023
• Have lower graduation rates and are less likely to attend college

IMMEDIATE IMPACT

- For every year teens work, income in their 20’s rises 14%-16% and graduation rates go up

- Girls who have jobs are less likely to get pregnant, and boys are less likely to commit crimes

Last summer, PMP combated an estimated 25% summer learning-loss, which is common for students who do not engage in any academic work over the summer, for both the students and their mentors.  In addition to the statistics, students in low-income communities are six-times more likely to drop-out of school. PMP will be directly influencing teenagers in high school who aspire to make a difference. With the support of PMPs staff and volunteers, we are changing the outcomes in the inner-city neighborhoods were our programs operate.
